This legislative session, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon is doubling down on our commitment to making real policy change by fighting to protect the future that every person deserves. We’re working with partners not just to defeat any attacks on our reproductive freedom, but to boldly push for policies that expand access to reproductive health care, and provide all Oregonians with the rights and resources we all need to thrive.
We need your voice at the table. The 2022 Legislative Advocacy Series — a monthlong program of virtual events kicking off February 8th — aims to strengthen our communities by demystifying the legislative process and by sharing our organizing tools with Planned Parenthood patients and supporters. Legislative Kickoff
Tuesday, February 8th (6-6:45pm)
Join us for our legislative kickoff, where you will hear PPAO’s legislative priorities, including the Fair Shot for All agenda, and deepen your understanding of grassroots lobbying as a critical part of the democratic process. VIP guest speakers will include House Speaker Dan Rayfield and State Senator Kayse Jama!

Story of Self, Part 1: Developing Your Personal Story
Wednesday, February 9th (6-7:30pm)
Personal stories are a powerful tool that are critical when advocating to maintain and expand access to the vital health services that Planned Parenthood provides. In the first part of the Story of Self training, PPAO staff will walk participants through the components of building power through personal narratives, and then facilitate an interactive space where participants will develop their own story of self.

Story of Self, Part 2: Testimony Training
Thursday, February 10th (6-7:30pm)
The second part of our Story of Self training will empower participants with the knowledge they need to turn their personal story into an effective advocacy tool. We will take you step by step through the process of submitting a piece of testimony to a legislative committee in support of a bill — a great tool to have in any community organizer’s toolbox!

Advocacy Lifecycle & the Reproductive Health Equity Act
Wednesday, February 16th (6-7:30pm)
Our Political Director, Cassie Purdy, will discuss how we use our advocacy lifecycle to turn solutions into policy. This cycle includes identifying a problem, conducting research, working in coalition, lobbying and monitoring implementation, among other steps. To demonstrate what the advocacy lifecycle looks like in real time, we will take a look at the history of the Reproductive Health Equity Act, where we are now and what our next steps are for this historic piece of legislation.

Intro to Reproductive Justice
Wednesday, February 23rd (6-7:30pm)
This introductory webinar will delve into issues of reproductive oppression and the Reproductive Justice movement, with a particular focus on how reproductive oppression intersects with disability, transgender rights and the carceral state.

Intro to the Non-Profit Industrial Complex
Thursday, February 24th (6-7:30pm)
This webinar will introduce the concept of the non-profit industrial complex (NPIC). We will define what the NPIC is, how it operates and how it came to be. Through this webinar, we will engage with questions around what a movement is, how non-profits encourage and/or inhibit movements and recenter on how we want to move forward.

Legislative Wrapup: Roe Was Never Enough!
Wednesday, March 2nd (6-7:30pm)
PPAO staff will debrief important outcomes of the short legislative session, and will look forward to our upcoming work in a future that may not include the protections of Roe v. Wade. Join us in visioning for a post-Roe world, centered on abortion justice and reproductive liberation. This space will be to build community and solidarity, to center hope and to imagine a better future.
