The Supreme Court overturned nearly 50 years of precedent and eliminated the constitutional right to abortion, stripping people of the right to control their own bodies. By overturning Roe v. Wade, the Supreme Court has now officially given politicians permission to control what we do with our bodies, deciding that we can no longer be trusted to determine the course for our own lives.
We must continue to fight for a world where each person gets to determine the course of their own lives and make decisions about their own bodies. And that is only possible when we have leaders in office who stand with the will of the people.
This year, the race for Oregon’s Governor is anything but surefire. We are facing the risk of candidates who will walk back the progress we’ve made, but we can and must elect Tina Kotek, who has been a proven champion for reproductive freedom.
Tina Kotek for Oregon will host 4 phone banks and 4 canvasses in July, starting Saturday, July 9th! Click here to sign up for a shift from anywhere in the state. Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici will kick off the July 9th canvass in Portland!
Make no mistake: This decision goes beyond abortion. This wrongful ruling is about who has power over you, who has the authority to make decisions for you and who can control how your future is going to be. This is the first time the Supreme Court has gone back on an individual right it previously established.
We will not compromise on our bodies, our dignity or our freedom. It is our duty to elect a true champion of our values and freedoms to the highest office in Oregon. For the past 9 years as Speaker of Oregon’s House of Representatives, Tina Kotek has led the way to stand up for working families like no one else has. Here are a few of the many things Tina has done to make our lives better:
- Defended reproductive freedom and access to abortion by passing the Reproductive Health Equity Act.
- Passed an increase in the minimum wage and paid family medical leave.
- Achieved the single largest investment for education and housing funding in Oregon’s history.
State and local elections matter now more than ever. Politicians and judges who think that we shouldn’t control our own bodies don’t deserve to be in positions of power. It’s critical that we elect a reproductive health champion as our Governor who will safeguard and expand access to essential health care at the state level while fighting back against relentless attacks on our rights.
