#WhenYouInvestInPPAO: Meet Ariana
Let’s be real: When the Trump administration stacked the courts with anti-abortion judges, the clocks turned back on our health and rights. Fortunately, the future of our movement is in strong hands. This month we’d like to introduce you to 3 of our volunteer leaders to share their personal stories about why we need you in this fight.
Meet Ariana Organiz. A first-generation Latina, Ariana says that politicians attacking the Title X family planning program are what motivated her to advocate for reproductive justice and rights, which in her own words means “being able to to choose what you want to do with your body and who you want to do it with; to choose contraception or not; to have an abortion or not.”
Ariana worked as a 2019 Grassroots Organizing Fellow with PPAO and went on to co-found Raíz of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon, “a program that centers the lived experiences and the voices of the Latinx community and really puts them at the forefront of the reproductive justice movement,” she explains. “It’s been very fulfilling to advocate for the communities I want to be advocating for…. That means everything to me.”
We are in a multigenerational fight that must go beyond our own individual reproductive rights, and instead fight for collective liberation. This year reproductive freedom will be decided in statehouses, in courtrooms and at the ballot box. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Oregon needs your financial support to build up the next generation of activists.
